About Me

"What constitutes computer literacy for a middle school student?" "What skills and techniques need to be mastered before one is deemed computer literate?" These two questions are at the heart of a curriculum designed with the use of the Texas K-12 Technology Applications Standards. Operations such as file/folder management, knowing the various ports on the back of the computer, and a basic knowledge of the inside of the computer (processors, memory, power supplies, etc.) creates a solid foundation for any additional knowledge acquired in the future. Once a student knows the ‘why’ behind basic components of the computer, the learning process becomes much simpler and more fun. Afterwards, third party software applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Access become easier to navigate through and understand. Finally, the magnificent inventions of the internet and the World Wide Web are discussed as well as using these tools in a responsible manner.

As a past worker in the information technology field and micro-entrepreneur, Mr. Richardson is currently combining many of the basic computer skills taught in his class with real-life experience from working in the computer industry for 4 years. Currently, the invention of new products and computer software continues to explode at an exponential rate. The more a student knows and understands about basic hardware and software of the computer, the more equipped he or she will be to function in a future that relies more and more on technology.

Mr. Richardson is a certified Technology Applications EC-12 Teacher with the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) in the state of Texas.
